I was diagnosed in early adolescence with Stargardt’s Disease, a form of macular degeneration, and was legally blind by my mid-teens. My first dive into YouTube came in 2012 when I was hired to create content for a mobile technology channel. While in that position I added a couple of videos about phone accessibility apps for people with low vision and received positive feedback from members of the VIP community. This encouraged me to create my own YouTube channel, The Blind Life, dedicated to sharing my experiences living with vision loss. At the time of writing this, The Blind Life (formerly, The Blind Spot) has over 27,000 subscribers and boasts over 560 videos covering a wide variety of topics of interest for those affected by vision loss.
I try to show the humorous side of life with low vision while also sharing many tips and tricks I’ve learned over the last 30 years. I put this knowledge to the test for four years as an Assistive Technology trainer at a nonprofit where I worked with visually impaired consumers and help them learn to use accessibility tools to make their lives easier.
