One Step at a Time

One Step at a Time

"The hardest part of rebuilding is starting. The best part is realizing how far you’ve come."

Rebuilding isn’t about rushing to the finish line—it’s about focusing on the step in front of you. Sometimes, life demands we start over, and the journey forward can feel overwhelming. But with patience, persistence, and the right mindset, every small action becomes part of something bigger.

When meningitis forced me to start from scratch, the first step to rebuilding was learning—or, in my case, relearning. I had to relearn all kinds of fun stuff, like how to swallow—which, by the way, required me to drink Jell-O. Seems impossible… but unfortunately, it’s not! I quickly discovered I preferred the red Jell-O. It tasted better and, let’s be honest, made the nurses a little nervous. It was frustrating at first, but every bite brought me closer to the life I wanted to reclaim. Even something as simple as swallowing reminded me that progress is possible, one small step at a time.

Progress is rarely linear, and it’s almost never fast. But every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to where you want to be. It’s okay to feel frustrated. It’s okay to rest. But it’s never okay to stop.

What’s one thing you’re rebuilding in your life right now?
